2024 University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarships
The University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship has a value of up to for undergraduate students and up to NZD$15,000 for postgraduate students, and will be awarded to applicants who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement.
The University welcomes applications for the Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship from international students who are new to studying at the University of Waikato, and who will be coming to study here for face-to-face study in 2024
The Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship was established in 2015 to promote educational opportunities, foster internationalisation and support talented international applicants who are enrolling as new students into undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at the University of Waikato.
The Scholarships are tuition fees credits in NZD and have a value of up to $15,000 for undergraduate students and up to $15,000 for postgraduate students and are awarded to applicants who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement. Successful applicants will be called upon to become global ambassadors for the University of Waikato.

Value & Duration of Award: $15,000
Undergraduate students will receive between $2,500 and $15,000 as follows:
One year tenure: between $2,500 and $8,000 applied to tuition fees in the first year.
Two years’ tenure: between $2,500 and $12,000, with no more than $8,000 in the first year of study and no more than $4,000 in the second year of study.
Three years tenure: between $2,500 and $15,000, with no more than $8,000 in their first year of study, and no more than $4,000 in year two, and no more than $3,000 in year three of study.
Postgraduate students will receive between $2,500 and $15,000 which will be applied to one or more years of the recipient’s postgraduate study.
The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition fees for the agreed programme of study either at the time of enrolment or once their enrolment is completed.
Eligible Countries: International Students
Eligibility: To be eligible for the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship, applicants must:
be applying to enrol full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme;
•as a new international student to the University of Waikato
•have received a conditional or unconditional offer of place from the University of Waikato (including a pathway offer for a degree packaged with the Certificate of Attainment in English Language; the Certificate of Attainment in
Foundation Studies; Certificate of University Preparation; International Diploma (Business); International Diploma (Computer Science) or Diploma of Postgraduate Preparation (Pre-Masters) at the University of Waikato
have a minimum GPA equivalency of B+ in the qualification used to gain entrance to the University of Waikato not currently be enrolled at the University of Waikato in any undergraduate or postgraduate programme and not have paid fees at the time of application
not be coming to the University of Waikato via a sponsoring body
not be coming to the University of Waikato on a Guaranteed Credit Arrangement,
or through a study abroad or student exchange agreement.
How To Apply: Follow the procedures listed below to apply for the Jniversity of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship:
Applications can be submitted at any time and decisions will normally be made within 8 to 12 weeks of the time of application. However, applications may not be considered if received within 4 weeks of the start of each of the university’s three main trimesters (A, B, and C Trimesters).
As part of their online submission, applicants must:
upload their conditional or unconditional offer of place from theUniversity of Waikato.
When completing the online application, ensure they provide specific details when explaining why they want to study at the University of Waikato and how they will be a global ambassador for the University of Waikato.
